Stay Well This Winter- Why have the Flu jab?
There has been a big push over the last few years, in schools, GP surgeries and pharmacies in the hope that more and more people will have the flu jab and contribute towards ‘herd immunity’. So why is it so important?
Essentially flu is more serious than you realise especially for the very young, very old, those who are pregnant or who have a compromised immune system.
The NHS Website states:
‘Flu is an unpredictable virus that can cause mild illness in most people. It can cause severe illness and even death among vulnerable groups including older people, pregnant women and people with an underlying health condition.’
If you are the primary carer for someone who is frail or who has a low immune system then the NHS advises you have the flu jab or you could put your loved one at great risk.
