Carers Innovation Fund

Caroline Dineage MP and Minister for Care has announced a dramatic increase in funding for the Carers Innovation Fund, part of the Carers Action Plan. Speaking at the National Children and Adult Social Services Conference (NCASC) the MP confirmed that funding would increase from £500,000 to £5million.

This was very welcome news for Carers UK. Emily Holzhausen OBE who is Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the organisation said ‘We are delighted to hear that the Innovation Fund has been increased substantially….Innovation is vital to getting support right for carers. Changes in technology and insight offer fantastic opportunities for reaching carers with better support, and earlier in their caring journey.’

However as Ms Holzhausen went on to impress, the challenge is far from over. ‘Whilst this funding is welcome, it doesn’t change the very urgent funding crisis that faces social care in the short and medium term….We need strong and robust measures for carers in the forthcoming NHS Plan and Social Care Green Paper, as well as better employment rights for carers juggling work with caring responsibilities. ‘
