Pride & Periods – Free sanitary items in Suffolk Libraries
Suffolk Libraries have launched their new initiative, ‘Pride & Periods’ whereby free sanitary items are given to people in need – no questions asked. To request the items all you need to do is to fill in one of the discreetly placed forms and hand it to a member of staff.
Suffolk Libraries said that a recent poll (by Always) has shown that girls and women experiencing period poverty miss school days, struggle to find employment and seem more likely to suffer with anxiety and depression.
Sarah Lungley, mental health and wellbeing coordinator said ‘We are absolutely thrilled to be able to launch Pride & Periods, and hope that it will help in the fight against period poverty in Suffolk. ‘
The items have been donated by Pink Parcel, East of England Co-Op and Blood Good Period and are available in the following Suffolk libraries:
Broomhill, Bungay, Bury St Edmunds, Chantry, Gainsborough Community, Ipswich County, Lowestoft, Newmarket, Rosehill and Stoke.
