Suffolk Artlink is a participatory arts charity based in Halesworth. They run inclusive arts projects for young people, older people, people with learning disabilities and family carers in various communities across Suffolk.
These projects can involve dance, visual art, table discussions, theatre trips and much more. One of their most successful projects to date is JumpStART which is an arts training programme for adults with learning disabilities. JumpStART takes place twice a year (Spring/Summer and Autumn/ Winter) and is a ten week programme which enables the students to develop their skills and confidence.
Laura, one of our Carer Advisers here at Suffolk Carers Matter has worked on JumpstART in the past and said of the project, ‘It is such an amazing opportunity for the students involved to learn new skills and meet new people. It was lovely watching the relationships develop between the students over the ten week period and above all seeing them experience the satisfaction and sense of achievement which comes from developing a sustained piece of creative work. ‘
This season’s JumpstART programme has the theme of Festival Arts and there are courses running in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Lowestoft. There are still a couple of places left on their Spring/Summer programme so do get in touch with Charlie@suffolkartlink.org.ukif you or someone you know is interested.
In 2016 Suffolk Artlink worked in collaboration with Suffolk County Council on a project called Talking Care which involved talking to family carers across the county and collating their stories and experiences. You can access both the video and the booklet for Talking Care here: https://www.suffolkartlink.org.uk/our-work/talking-care/
Through their projects Suffolk Artlink help to transform people’s lives by aiding individuals in the development of new skills, creating social opportunities so that friendships can be formed and above all grow people’s confidence and enhance their wellbeing through a variety of art forms.
